Experience

Head of Inclusive Design

Uber | March 2021 – Present

I lead Uber’s Inclusive Research & Design team in our vision to weave equity into the way the world moves. Founded as part of Uber’s 14 Anti-Racism Commitments, I was brought in to hire a team and build a practice to foster a culture of inclusive product development. We focus on enabling all teams to prioritize the perspectives of historically and systemically excluded communities to ensure our platform is accessible, safe, fair, and inclusive to all.

Inclusive Design Lead

Workday | January 2020 – March 2021

I lead Workday’s Inclusive Design team in pursuit of providing an equitable experience for everyone we serve. We focus on assessing and mitigating bias in our products and equipping UX teams (and beyond) with education, tools, and resources that empower them to design equitably.

Product Design Lead

Workday | April 2017 – January 2020

Workday brings finance and HR together in one seamless system for 100s of companies. As a Product Design Lead, I helped build and shape the design practice and talented team at Workday. I brought design and systems thinking into the foundation of how we built products, moving the perception of design from being solely visual to being strategic, agile, and integrated into the entire product development life-cycle.

Beyond building on the design practice, I led design and research on Workday Assistant—a conversational interface.

Senior User Experience Designer

Pivotal Labs | January 2016 – March 2017

(Pivotal acquired Slice of Lime in January 2016)

With more than 20 years of lean and agile software experience, Pivotal helps enterprises and startups solve complex problems and launch market-tested, innovative products. Some notable clients include Mercedes, Humana, Ford, Dish, Southwest Airlines and Groupon.

At Pivotal, I constantly collaborated with designers, product managers, and software engineers on all aspects of a product. Their process is one of a balanced team working together in user research, product strategy, UX design, UI design, prototyping and usability testing. I led design on projects with clients on-site in our Boulder, New York, and London offices.

Not only do we create products for our clients, we also enable those clients to learn our lean and agile practices to take back and transform their own teams. I taught our clients design thinking, workshop facilitation skills, research and interview techniques, and how to continually iterate on concepts and designs.

Internally, I helped our team develop and expand our practices and lead our Boulder’s grassroots diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Senior User Experience Designer

Slice of Lime | October 2014 – January 2016

(Slice of Lime was acquired by Pivotal in January 2016)

Slice of Lime was an award-winning UX design firm, named the “most effective UX agency” by UX Magazine. Here, I was able to work with notable clients on several projects in healthcare, large-scale real estate, and the Internet of Things.

I collaborated with other designers to lead clients through every step of the UX process including user research and interviews, competitive analysis, product strategy, service design, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and usability testing. Other responsibilities related to projects include client and stakeholder communication, facilitating workshops, and collaborating with internal teams.

Beyond the scope of the project itself, we taught our practices to client teams, enabling them to continue these UX practices on other projects and throughout their company.

Director of User Experience

Gift Card Impressions | June 2014 – September 2014

Gift Card Impressions is one of the leading sources of gift packaging. The company had gained a large market share in the print and packaging world and was looking to move that success into the digital realm. I was responsible for leading the development of their digital offering, the digital design team and bringing user experience practices and thinking to the company.

Creative Director

RareWire | March 2010 – June 2014

RareWire was a mobile app development startup acquired by DSI Global in 2015. Here, I worked closely with clients to build customized mobile applications to provide solutions to their specific business needs. From initial discovery meetings identifying and defining the problem, to a polished product ready for customers in the App Store/Play Store, we mindfully cultivated an experience that would boost our clients’ presence in their industry.

As Creative Director, I was involved in projects from the very beginning to ensure that no detail was overlooked. My responsibilities included leading discovery research, information architecture, wireframing, user experience, interface design, prototyping, development and QA. I also analyzed design problems, communicated with the design team, articulated feedback, and helped the design team improve their work and skill sets.

Art Director

Popstar Networks | December 2009 – March 2012

At Popstar, I was responsible for leading design direction with a team of graphic and user experience designers to complete multi-media projects with strict deadlines.  I helped communicate project timelines and scope of work documentation to maintain clear expectations between my team and the end customer.

As Art Director, I also worked collaboratively with the sales and marketing departments to complete presentations, marketing and website collateral, as well as engineering teams to implement design.
